I.      Affirmations Definition, and What is an Affirmation?

Positive affirmations and thinking is very powerful tool to have on your side. Those who are positive thinkers are always coming up in the newspapers all of the time, and you may think of names such as Richard Branson, Bill Gates, and Steve Jobs as being the epitome of success.

They got to where they wanted to be because of their positive affirmations and thinking and their belief in what they were doing. Inside of every person is this positive belief in something and it’s time that you unleashed your positivity to make your world a better place to be.

We all need reminders now and then. You don’t leap out of bed every day knowing you are amazing and about to have an incredible day. All of us have a lot of demands, pressures, to-do’s, and responsibilities, so we find ourselves rushing around, working hard to please others.

Most of the time, you find yourself at the back of your bus, having made everyone else happy but yourself. Then you go and beat yourself up about it. Let’s stop that, shall we?

If you’re anything like me, there are always aspects of your life or your personality that you’re working to improve. After all, nobody’s perfect— that’s part of the beauty of life. We all make mistakes, we all have bad habits, we all make bad choices sometimes, and that’s okay.

That’s great! But if you do want to continue learning and improving, it’s probably not a great idea to just keep doing the same thing you’ve been doing for years. It’s time to try something new, and this is where positive affirmations come in.

Positive Affirmations Definition:

Affirmations are positive statements that you make out loud, every day, to help you shift your mindset positively and productively. These statements can be about literally anything.

For example, if you are trying to increase your self-confidence, you could say something like, “My self-confidence increases every day.” Or if let’s say, you just had a bad breakup and you’re trying to shift your focus from your dating life (or lack thereof) to your career—then you could say to yourself, “I will focus on improving my job prospects,” or, “I am completely focused on my work.”

It’s all about what changes you want to make— how you want to improve your mindset and, ultimately, your life.

Now, one of the main benefits of affirmations is that they help you to change how you think—over time. You won’t wake up one morning, say to yourself that you’re going to be happy from now on, and then have the best day of your life every day until you die. (Well, you probably won’t, anyway — I suppose anything is possible.)

But if you commit to taking five minutes of your morning to stand in front of the mirror, look yourself in the eye, and tell yourself that you are a beautiful, capable person who will achieve all she is working for, you’ll find that after a couple of weeks, you’re starting to believe yourself.

Maybe you’ll stop cringing every time you look in the mirror, or maybe you’ll start to notice all of the small steps you’re making toward your big goals—the steps that have been made easier now that you know, and I mean know, that you’re capable of anything you set your mind to.

What is an Affirmation?

Affirmations aren’t magic spells. You can’t just say that you’re going to advance in your career and sit in your chair staring at a blank computer screen every day—you have to work your ass off and take advantage of the chance opportunities that come around.

You can’t just tell yourself that you’re going to love your family members better and then proceed to ignore them every time they come near—you have to listen when they talk and respond patiently and kindly.

What I’m saying is, if you don’t follow up on your positive affirmations with actions, not much in your life will change. I mean, it makes sense. Empty words are useless. But positive affirmations are the first step to a better morning, to an improved mindset—to you that you like to be around.

II.   Positive Affirmations: The Incredible Art of Self-Affirmation

Another article on positive affirmations is here to remind you that you are pretty darn great. I had to learn to remind myself of that, but you know what? It feels pretty darn good. It is even kind of addictive in the best possible way.

While this might seem like a fluffy little exercise, it runs quite deep and will serve you the rest of your life. There are reasons we need esteem boosters here and there; we pick up scars along the way and get bumps and bruises in the wake of daily life.

If you had a bad childhood, you have these old “tapes” from poor parenting that loop around in your brain on an unconscious level, “You’ll never amount to anything. You’re not good at sports. Your sister has a much better singing voice than you, so we’re sending her to music camp, and you can stay behind and babysit.”

Even really nice moms and dads perpetrate these parenting errors that leave marks on the souls of their children. But, this can all be overcome with the right mix of positive affirmations. Every day and in every way, you can learn the art of self-affirmation.

III. Affirmations: Self-Affirmation Adjustment

If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed and drained by the busyness of life with too many demands, you need to stop in your tracks and do an attitude adjustment, or more specifically a “gratitude adjustment.” Whenever you have gotten to this point, you require some “me TLC” and a dose of radical self-affirmation.

The habit of practicing positive affirmations to builds self-esteem:

If you affirm yourself every day, you can rule the world. More importantly, you can live a life filled with love, joy, fulfillment, and satisfaction thanks to your positive self-regard. Through the art of self-affirmation or daily positive affirmations, you can take control of your destiny and create your ideal life.

If it sounds easy, it can be but it does require the discipline that you reflect upon positive affirmations each day. These positive affirmations are a mindfulness practice that will strengthen your self-esteem. Like a muscle, the more you do it, the stronger your confidence and sense of self will be.

This article on Positive Affirmations is the ultimate motivating, encouraging, and uplifting article here on ProKensho to enjoy and share. These very wise words and affirmative sayings have the power to touch our hearts, make us laugh, and alleviate our stress while realizing the vast potential life has to offer.

Positive Affirmations are only a small part of the picture. You need positive thinking and the right attitude if you want to unlock your potential. You also need to work toward your goals and know that they are doable.

If your belief is such that you can go toward your goals unflinchingly, you are more likely to reach them. Many people don’t know the direction their lives are heading in and leave much of what happens to them to chance. You only get one shot at it, so chance should never come into the picture.

Your success doesn’t depend upon the goodwill of anyone else. Each of us has the same potential, and that’s the wonderful thing about the power of positive affirmations and thinking. It allows you to find out what makes you happy and set a course to achieve it. So what’s the deal with positive thinking? Well, I can tell you from experience that it’s more than just smiling and being happy.

It’s about using your positive attitude to learn all of the things you need to know to succeed and reach your goals, whether these are personal goals, financial goals, or business goals. It doesn’t matter what your dream is or how complex it appears to be, nor how simple.

People don’t all want the same things, and it’s your authenticity that will tell you what your dream is. Don’t be swayed by anyone because it’s YOUR dream, not theirs. All I can do is point you in the right direction so that you are more likely to achieve those goals.

There are thousands of people who go through life and who are dissatisfied with their lot in life. Why? Well, the reason is pretty clear when you study the individuals involved. They want more than they have, but without actually being able to pinpoint what it is that they want, all they can do is criticize those who have elements of their dreams and put it down to good fortune.

If they were to change their way of thinking and put a real label on what it is that they want, then they would bring all of these desires into the realms of possibility. That’s when the magic starts to happen. And we on ProKensho, go through the process of explaining how positive affirmations, thinking, and motivation can work hand in hand to help you to succeed and to be happy at the same time.

Sometimes it takes the simplicity of childhood to live your dreams. Look at a child whose dream is to play a certain role in the pageant. Only one person will play that role, and it won’t always be the prettiest girl or the most handsome-looking boy. Often it will be the child who showed that it was his/her dream to take that role and make the most of it that persuaded the teacher to let him/her have that role.

When you grow up, what happens is that you are suddenly faced with complexity. Life isn’t that simple anymore. There are so many choices, but there are also so many people in competition for different elements of life – The best car, the best house, the best wife, the best reputation – that people get confused about where they should be aiming.

They begin to measure themselves against others, and that’s when dissatisfaction sets in. Our world today encourages this kind of behavior by typecasting people, when in fact that may not be a fair representation of who a particular individual is.

When you learn to use positive affirmations and thinking, you show the world the side of you that cannot be type-casted. You may call Bill Gates or Richard Branson entrepreneurial types, but you would never mistake one for the other because their style of entrepreneurship is so different.

When you decide where you are going, you step out of the typecast and become a very strong individual with an awful lot to look forward to.

So, Let’s forget all of the preconditioning that you went through as a child. Today is the beginning of the rest of your life. Today matters, and who you are today makes a difference to your future and your tomorrow.
