In this article, we’ll examine the relationship between mindfulness and life satisfaction through meditation’s mechanisms such as focusing on positive experiences and practicing gratitude. Mindfulness in general terms refers to paying attention to the present moment without any judgments to one’s thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations.

Mindfulness and meditation have been practiced in Buddhist, Hinduism, and Christian communities to strengthen religiosity for over a decade. And over the last few decades, mindfulness has been taught in various secular institutions to enhance people’s spirituality and improve their overall wellbeing and their mental health, regardless of their faith, religion, and traditions.

According to various studies on Mindfulness and meditation, mindfulness fosters decentering from distress to broaden one’s attention and metacognitive awareness, which is well known for enhancing one’s emotion regulation, fostering positive and good emotions, and disengages people from autopilot mode.

These processes further promote and enhance one’s well-being, true meaning in life, and better mental health. Recent studies have also found emotion regulation as a mechanism between mindfulness meditation and mental health. And life satisfaction is the cognitive appraisal of the satisfactoriness of the conditions of one’s life, and it is also known as a core component of a subjective sense of well-being.
